Designer Interview of Chris Woodward:

DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

CW : ND in industrial design, HND product design and BA in Industrial design 1st class honours. I always liked creating and making things from a young age, even taken things apart to see how they work.

DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

CW : We are a small industrial design studio in Shoreditch London, We are lucky as we work on a wide range of diverse projects. We tailor make teams based on the clients / projects needs. We are very adaptable and flexible which is a must for todays current market.

DI: What is "design" for you?

CW : Design is problem solving and creating something new and enhancing the experience for the user.

DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?

CW : I like projects where there is a challenge and it pushes my mind and skill base

DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

CW : The design i admire most is the Eames lounge chair, I designed a swatch dect3 phone which was a great design, the project was very successful and the whole project process was so enjoyable.

DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?

CW : It was a navigation pod which attached to the arm of the captains chair so that he could override the systems.

DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

CW : I love real materials and the qualities they have.

DI: When do you feel the most creative?

CW : As a designer you are always creative and sometimes its hard to switch off.

DI: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

CW : I try to focus on maintaining a different perspective.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?

CW : All emotions ranging from frustration to joy.

DI: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?

CW : I generally feel satisfied or irritated if I regret making certain adjustments.

DI: What makes a design successful?

CW : There are many qualities to a successful design depending on financial elements, usability, aesthetics and engineering components.

DI: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

CW : Generally the look and feel first and the function second.
