We, as the Designer Interviews ("DI") had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to interview award-winning, most creative and innovative Antrei Hartikainen ("AH").
Antrei Hartikainen is Finnish designer and master cabinetmaker. He have extensive experience in working with wood design. He design and make products and individual pieces by combining practicality, the material itself and a certain artistic flair; at times focusing on only one of these aspects. The desire to bring out the diverse possibilities of wood is recurring theme in his work. He usually create contrasts using the relationships between the worked surface, the finish, light and shadow and light weight and solid wood.

Designer Interview of Antrei Hartikainen:
DI: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
AH : I have made my studies with woodworking. Latest I have achieve master cabinetmaker title. All the time since vocational school I have want to create my own design and art pieces.
DI: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
AH : I'm running one man design & making studio based in Fiskars village, Finland. Concentrating in the field of wood design. Designing, prototyping and producing wood based products, objects, furnitures and sculptures.
DI: What is "design" for you?
AH : Balancing with form and function. Creating meaningful designs is way to give some extra value for the end user ; feeling, functionality, aesthetic.
DI: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
AH : Small object, furnitures and objects between product and sculpture
DI: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
AH : KUKKII works are serie of wooden aesthetic. Serie contain wall and floor sculpture / shelves inspired by sensibility of nature.
DI: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
AH : Flat-packable coatrack for Finnish wood design company Nikari Oy
DI: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
AH : Wood in all possibly forms.
DI: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
AH : Latest I was exhibiting in Stockholm Furniture Fair with my own stand. Autumn 2017 I will hold big sculpture exhibition in HelsinkiDesignWeek
DI: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
AH : Many of my inspiration comes from the nature. Especially for my art works. Furniture design inspiration comes usually from the desire to solve some problem.
